We’re back in Townsville

We left a very calm anchorage at Bona Bay, Gloucester Island early on Friday 29th June and motor sailed to Cape Upstart, passing Middle Island, Bowen and Abbott Point with three ships awaiting their cargo. We anchored near the beach at Cape Upstart in time to watch the sun set.

On Saturday 30th June, we set sail from Cape Upstart bright and early with plans to cover 68 nautical miles or 10 hours travel north to Magnetic Island. We even saw a number of dolphins off Cape Bowling Green on our way. Once again, we had to resort to motor sailing as the winds became lighter. For two nights, we anchored in Horseshoe Bay, Magnetic Island along with the Young Endeavour and about thirty-five other boats to see the setting sun, enjoying beautiful sunny weather and a long weekend for the Townsville Show. We managed to stay out of the way of the Offshore Powerboat Racing off the Strand.

Unfortunately, all good things come to an end and so it is with our Whitsunday sailing holiday. On Monday 2nd July, we set sail for the final afternoon of our holidays from Magnetic Island back to Breakwater Marina, Townsville. We have tied up our mooring lines again after an enjoyable holiday exploring the Whitsundays. And back to work on Tuesday…..
